Oregon 35 - Michigan 26
Opening up the college division, Oregon crumbled Michigan thanks to strong games by Center Stephen Moutsoulas, 16pts, and swingman John Krimble, who scored 15pts. Michigan was led by Kelly Abreu who scored 15 for the Blue in the loss. Juan Encarnacion played well with and had 6 pts for the losers.
Duke 35 - Providence 22
Cael Schaejbe took care of the perimeter scoring with 13pts, Jared Louf held it down inside with 8pts and plenty of rebounding for their team in the win. Jeff White and Matt Muse combined for 11pts, but the friars were led by Billy Muse who managed 9pts in the loss. Ryan Dullea chipped in for Providence with 2pts and big time defense. Bryan Lora chipped into the win for Duke with 6 pts.
North Carolina 20 - Boston College 14
Jonathon Swasey, 8pts, was the top man for the Eagles, and received a little help from teammates Jerry Batista and Adam Maggiacamo who each had 2pts. The Tar Heels spread it all around to gain the victory over BC. However Tahmid Raji stuck out drilling two 3-pointers in the first half and ended up with 8pts. Jt Kapnis managed 4pts from inside. rounding out the NC scoring Isaih Hodges, Mitchell Osgood, Tyler Woodbury and Tyler Thomas all scored 2 pts.
UCLA 40 - Syracuse 31
In the highest scoring affair of the night, the Bruins of UCLA outpaced the Orangemen. UCLA started very quickly and jumped out to a double digit lead thanks to the smooth moves of Melvin Guzman, 8pts. Melvin was aided by some timely scoring by Hector Galarza who had 7pts. Syracuse rushed back thanks to the dynamic duo of Jefferson Akers, 15pts, and Chris Matton who scurried around for 8pts.
Indiana 24 - Georgetown 21
With only one game going down to the wire on opening night, this one was a gem. Early on it was looking like FJ Murphy, 15pts, was going to be way too much for the Hoosiers to handle. However Anthony Harris, 8pts, kept him off the boards in the second half by banging with him in the paint. Sean Alman scored 4pts and played point for his Hoyas. in the final minute Aidan Scrimgeour, 12pts, stole the rock from a Hoyas Ballhandler and converted the layup to put the Hoosiers ahead for good.
